Since moving a light in the bathroom why don\’t other lights in my house work?
RB
Recently moved a light in the bathroom. Which seems to be wired up correctly. Since then, the living room light seems to have been reversed (i.e., when the switch if the “off” position, the light is on). Also kitchen light no longer works, and when bedroom light is switched on, it comes on fine, but when bedroom switch is in “off” position, it just flickers. Any advice? Do you think it’s totally to do with moving the bathroom light?

It is to do with your bathroom light,Been wired wrong.
I had a similar problem, I had to get someone in who knew what they were doing. x
The bathroom wiring powers the other lights in the house, you must have wired it incorrectly. You may have to trace the wires back to the power supply to figure it out.
Since you have already moved the fixture, recheck your connections & reset any breakers you may have “opened” to do the work.
Not a pro , but have found a connection check finds most simple faults, also have an IBEW buddy to call.
Big fan of answers ending w “I’m an electrician” as a source.

2-way light switch has wires reversed ?
a new connection has restored the flow to a level that is no longer compatible with the now-withered capacity of some older switch/wire ?
loose connection, defective switch
This one is a length of string- so many answers come to mind. Firstly put everything back AS IT WAS. If everything is then OK then you can then start to look elsewhere for possible solutions.
If there is still a problem then you have either done something to cause the snag OR, the wiring was wrong in the first place. (And yes this DOES happen) thus your intrusion into the lighting circuits has highlighted the error.
If you are not technical then the best course of action is to get the services of an electrician as the down side of all this is safety especially as it is your BATHROOM light (Water and all that).
I would guess there is some sort of snag on the neutral side of the wired supply but one has to eyeball the installation to know for sure.
Simply moving a light should NOT cause a problem but now it has is best to proceed with some caution
You have obviously misconnected the moved light, there are numerous possibilities, put it back the way it was and extend the neutral and switch wires only.
Definitely you have crossed the wires in the circuit. I think you would be well advised to call someone in.
If everything worked correctly before you started, then you have done something.
I seriously doubt if all the wiring in your house are connected to your one line in the bathroom. Turn off the breakers, one by one and trace what lights up what. Then find out how the one you moved changed all the rest. If you don’t know how to do it, find someone who does. And that’s my best advice.
It sounds like you messed up badly.
Not enough information for a firm guess as to how.
You need a pro now.
You broke the law by doing that under the Part P regulations. Get a professional in.
Most uk houses are wired “loop-in” where the power to each light point is fed by a continuous cable that goes from light to light looping in and then out to the next. At most points you will have three twin and earth cables showing in the ceiling rose. Two of these are loop-in, loop-out, and the third goes to the switch. These are easily mixed up.
Looks like you have a misplaced wire or wires.
This is easy to fix when you can see diagrams of how the lights are wired.
