I moved to US on Dec 2006 but I didn’t claim moving expenses in previous years return. I passed Distance test and time test .My family air fare costs 2500 USD. Is it possible for me to claim actual expenses this year ie, 2007 return.

  1. No, but you could file an amended return for 2006. Moving expenses are deductible in the year they are spent.

  2. No, you can not claim the moving expenses on your 2007 return. You could file a Form 1040X, Amended Return for 2006 for a possible refund. Visit and look at Moving Expenses on Publication 17. It is not likely that you earned enough income or paid enough taxes in 2006 for the amended return to do you any good.

No, not this year, but you can ammend your
return from 2 years ago and if its beneficial
to you, get more money back go ahead,
but you have to do this , this year and
ammend because you can only do 3last
    years.
