How does it work moving out of an apartment complex?

I have one roommate and our lease is not officially up for another month. I will be moving out in just a few days though, while my roommate will still be here. What do I need to do to officially vacate? Just move all of my belongings out and take off?

  1. leave, and write a notarized letter to the landlord telling him what day your leaving. send it certified return receipt requested

  2. You will also need a move-out inspection to assess the condition and possible damages. This won’t happen until the place is empty. You ought to be there when they do it.

  3. You should come back after your roomie moves out to clean so you can get your deposit back. You are still responsible for your share of the last months rent. (maybe prepaid?) Be sure to give the landlord written notice that you both intend to vacate at the end of the lease.
