Can I move my own satellite dish without using the company\’s expensive moving program?

I’m moving to another town about 60 miles away. I have DirecTV. Can I remove my satellite at my apartment and install it at my new place? Will this cause any problems?

  1. yes but it will be hard to know where it is supposed to be positioned to

  2. I moved my dish and updated my phone number and address with Directv. That was before they had their moving service, but my guess is unless you are under contract with them, it’s your stuff to do as you please.

I got the pointing directions from the receiver after putting in new zip code. Then I used a $3 compass to get it close, then fine tuned it with the power meters in the set up menu.

  3. Moving a dish is a little more involved than packing up a set of rabbit ears. You system may be tied to your phone number so that won’t work.. Even if it is not hooked up to your phone, most people lack the training and equipment to locate and aim the dish at the correct satalites. I don’t think that the expensce is NOT all that much considering the grief it will save you.
