we are moving at the end of August out of state. we have been trying to look up the cheapest why to move an entire one bedroom apartment 1250 miles up the cali coast. we have looked at moving it ourselves verses moving companies. we have 2 cars to move up there too… any ideas on what the cheapest or most reliable ways to go about doing this are?

Just rent a Budget rent a truck and drive it yourself.
Move it yourself, especially if you have a good big van like us.

Unless you can fit everything in your cars, get a Uhaul trailer.
Cheapest is to get your friends to help and rent a Ryder or U-Haul Truck.
realistically, the cheapest way is for you to rent a large u-haul truck and do it yourselves. because a moving company is going to be very expenseve, and they charge alot of hidden costs
Cheapest and most reliable is renting a uhaul and doing it yourself. Moving companies are notorious for ripping you off one way or another. Been there, done that.
First of all, don’t pay any movers in advance…THIS IS A SCAM!!! only pay them after the job is completed.
Move yourself. Rent a Uhaul or budget truck and a car dolly. Drive the family car and tow the other. go to monstermove.com and order boxes that fit the size of your household goods, ie 3 BR or 2 BR. buy rolls of tape and padding, etc. It’s tough work, but a typical moving company this time of year will cost about $6,000 where moving yourself may cost 1,500 and some beer and pizza for helpers.
Iused to work for two different moving comps……..they lie, cheat and steel, that would be the owrst way to go, esp. if you can rent a uhaul or such………they will low ball the hours and then stick it to you, trust me, try to do it yourself w/friends and such. Incase you are wondering, I got fired from both comps. for giving guarenteed estimates, no surcharges at the end, they didn’t like that………I did, and I sleep well at night.
Hi I am a v.i.p. for a logistics company. We r currently doing a move at the end of august for a woman moving to the Dallas Texas area. Moving companies quoted her at 11,000 all in.
We quoted her for about half.
We are based in so cal. under Blue Express.

get a 1 way uhaul and a car dolly. Stuff your cars and the truck with your stuff and you drive the truck and tow 1 car and have spouse drive the car and follow you. We moved 120 miles and uhaul was the cheapest way to go with the truck. We looked at uhaul, budget, Ryder and penske. their website is helpful and we didn’t get moving blankets we used our own bedding. Get the next bigger truck than they tell you that way you will be sure to have enough room.
