Do moving companies charge by the pound and by distance?
May be moving, not sure. Trying to plan ahead re which items would be too heavy and costly to move, what to take, and what to get rid of or sell.
Does anyone know what in general the movers charge per pound? It would be from AZ to NC. Thinking the fridge, w/d, the adjustable bed, and the trundle bed may be better to sell or donate. They were kind of expensive, but are those things just too heavy?
Some furniture we already know we are not taking and some we definitely will. Nothing antique or irreplaceable, or highly expensive, but some decent pieces.
And we have lots of books and music, which we will thin out, but want to take most of that b/c it is hard to replace. Is it realistic to take these?
Thanks in advance for any insights. Not yet ready, obviously, to call the companies and figure out who would be best. The last time I moved any distance, everything fit it the car.

Is there anything such as full service moving companies ?

most moving companies charge by three factors, distance being one, the amount of men used at an hourly rate per man being second and third. Distance is usually charged as ” travel time” meaning that you could get two different rates depending of whether your move is done during rush hour or not and how long it takes to get to your destination .
Usually if it is a local move, they will only charge by the hour, if it is a rather lenghthy distance you are moving there will be a travel time factor. You need to ask the movers what there policies are.
Have you considered using a POD’s system? In some cases its a better way to move things, because your providing the labour and your packing it. Check out this link.
