How does someone move long distances?

long distance move
Lime

I can’t say that I have any money or really anything in this town that I’d like to stay around for. How does one move long distances? I don’t own a house, just a car and clothes.

  1. you put your stuff in your car, you pick a place to go, and you drive there, stay at a motel or a friends house till you can find an apartment or place to live

  2. you pack everything into your car and take off. Don’t get trapped into thinking you can’t just pack up and go. You will be surprised at how easy it is to say goodbye to something you don’t want anyway.

It might be better to do some planning, if you are not in a major hurry. Maybe try to get some interviews lined up for a place you might want to live, so you have a job waiting.

    Pack your cloths.
    Put them in your car.
    Drive.
    Find somewhere to stop.
    Find somewhere to live.
If you don’t like it, repeat steps 1 - 5..

  4. figure out if you are going to drive or not.

how much can you put in the car.

do you want to rent a u-haul trailer for the car, or a truck and tow the car.

can you hire professional movers? how much per pound ?
sell or give away stuff that cost more to move than you can buy new. they will not take propane tanks, arosols etc…

Do you know where you are moving to? You will need a couple of days or a week etc… to find a place in the new city. Where will you put your stuff? storage cost are extra. Do you have a friend you can with.
Call the real-estate companies where you are going. Some have agents that deal with rentals.

  5. Find the place you are moving and look into the local newspaper. Look into jobs and local places for rent. Especially look into people who want a roomie. Places like craigslist.com are also very useful for this. Try and set up something before hand, you need a place to stay before you move. If you can’t, try placing an ad in the newspaper of the place you are moving, or find a cheap hotel in the area. Remember, depending on where you are going, you may have to spend weeks living out of a suitcase. Also, most heavy or very small things aren’t needed for moving. Remember, you will need a job before you can get an apartment.
